Beauty was born rarely and unexpectedly. It cared not for money, or acres of land, it was not interested in good bloodlines, or poverty-stricken ancestors. It was born wherever blind-folded destiny had intended, in a daub house or with a silver spoon in the mouth. It moved through the world like an undeserved gift, leaving behind in its wake startled and amazed looks, desires to possess it and at the same time fears that something so beautiful might vanish as suddenly as it had appeared. The only thing certain were the stories or songs about it that would last much longer than the beauty itself. Until then, they would call it, as if trying to win her mercy or kindness – lepuška.
